Thank you for your support!
We are one team, one dream!

Welcome to Shelton Elementary School where we... equip and inspire students to become active and engaged citizens in a diverse and changing world.

September

From Mrs. Brady

What a fun week of learning, snow storms, fall pictures and more! Like any school year, there were some glitches and processes that need to be tweaked; we appreciate your feedback and patience as we work those out. I am so proud of our students, staff, and families as we have accomplished the herculean feat of getting this school year up and running!

A huge thank you to our PTSA whose support year after year resulted in Shelton being a 1:1 school, which means every student has a dedicated device to use this school year. What an incredible investment in our students. Thank you, PTSA!

A final note regarding drop off and pick up. Our school entrances do not open until 8:35 a.m. Please do not drop students off before this time, as we do not have supervision outside. At pick up, please remain in your vehicles and pull through either the parking lot or the pick up on Crawford Street. A sign with your student’s name and class should be displayed in your car. Please do not park in the parking lot and walk up to get your student. If you are walking home, please wait for your student on the sidewalk near the garden. We thank you for your help in keeping pick up safe, orderly, and running smoothly.

With continued gratitude,
Darby

August:
Dear Shelton Families,

We are looking forward to another great year with our Shelton students and families! We are excited to welcome our newest coyotes into the Shelton pack. While the 2020-2021 school year will certainly look different, I have no doubt that the Shelton staff will continue to provide incredible instruction to each students. Additionally, I know the Shelton community will continue to work collaboratively to understand how to best meet the demands of this unique situation.

I encourage you to read the Restart Plan or the Executive Summary.  A quick overview of the restart plan:

  • All schools will open remotely for a two week period beginning August 24th – September 4th. The week of August 31st will be an Orientation Week. Look for upcoming information on details for this week. On September 8th, school will be operating with a 100% remote and a 100% in-person model.  Class lists will not be determined until the week of August 17th.
  • In person students will be placed in cohorts with other students they will learn, play, attend art/music/PE and eat with. This limits both staff and student exposure. In person staff and students will be required to wear masks. All staff and students will be screened and temperature checked before entering the building. Processes and procedures are in place if a student or staff member tests positive for the COVID-19.

Other Updates

  • Kona Ice will be at Shelton on August 19th from 2-7 pm. Stop by and grab a treat! This is also a school supply drive drop off. Please consider bringing some unused supplies to support Shelton students.  This is a PTSA sponsored event with proceeds going to support our Shelton PTSA. Please adhere to all health guidelines including masks and social distancing.
  • One week to go in the Jeffco Library Explore Summer Reading contest - Let’s keep it up, Shelton is #6 out of 85 elementary schools and closing in fast!  If you have completed summer reading already – way to go!  Be sure to complete your reading log at https://jeffcolibrary.org/summer-reading/ and be a finisher for Shelton.  If we are the school with the highest percentage to complete the program, we will win $800 for the school library!
  • Shelton was a lucky recipient of the Cherry Arts Virtual Student Art Buying Program, receiving $500 in free art for display at the school. A team of students including, Caleb G., Mila R. and Ada C., selected the artist, Eric Clay, and had a zoom call with him to ask questions and agree on some fun, awesome artwork for Shelton. The artist was very generous, and is providing us the following two pieces, each printed on metal with custom frames. We hope they will be enjoyed by all the students at Shelton!
  • Join PTSA! The PTSA Board is working hard to get ready for this upcoming school year.  We will be using Konstella.com again as the online PTSA Directory. Being a part of the PTSA Directory allows you to stay up to date with how PTSA is supporting our school; it makes it easier to be involved.  It also allows you to network with classmates.  Sign Up Now: https://www.konstella.com/cd/T8F8GX.  You can also download the Konstella app to mobile devices.  Email SheltonPTSA@gmail.com with any questions.
  • Join Shelton's School Accountability Committee (SAC)! Have you ever wondered how your school runs from day to day?  How property taxes paid by the community evolve into books for the library, curriculum for our kids and compensation for our teachers and staff? Or what process Shelton follows to prioritize where funds received from the District are spent - is it on technology, various educational supports, smaller classrooms?  Find answers to these and many other questions by engaging with Shelton's School Accountability Committee!  SAC serves in an advisory role to our school Principal, and is a parent-led group of family representatives, the Principal and Assistant Principal, teachers, and an outside community member.  Committee Members meet for 90 minutes on the second Monday of each month, and any time spent outside of monthly meetings is at your discretion.  All SAC meetings are open to the public, but only Committee Members may vote on matters requiring approval.  Additionally, meetings for the upcoming school year will be held via ZOOM until further notice.  Please contact Theresa Shelton at tmdshelton@gmail.com if you're interested in learning more about SAC or engaging on a deeper level by serving as a Grade Level Parent Representative.  You can also click HERE to find information specific to Shelton's SAC including minutes from all prior meetings. Thanks in advance for making a difference at Shelton!

Thank you to each of you for being an important part of the Shelton Community.

With continued gratitude,
Darby
