WELCOME TO SHELTON ELEMENTARY

Our Mission: To equip and inspire students to be active and engaged citizens in a diverse and changing world.

A Note from Mrs. Brady, Principal - October 15, 2021

Dear Shelton Families,

As the weather cools, this is a great time to ensure your children have all the gear they need to go outside to recess each day. When deciding on indoor or outdoor recess, we look at the temperature, wind chill, and precipitation. We know how disappointing it is to pack up all the snow gear and then not have recess, so we always try to get outside. A general rule of thumb is if the temperature is about 20 degrees, or above, we go outside. As you know, weather in Colorado can vary greatly from day to day, and even within the same day; so please make sure your children are all set to enjoy recess on our beautiful playground! If you need help acquiring winter clothing, please reach out to our Family Engagement Liaison, Terri Pankey at terri.pankey@jeffco.k12.co.us

On another note, we have Fall Celebrations coming up on October 29th. As a school, we value inclusivity and belonging, and therefore we offer two choices for our families:

  • A Halloween themed celebration in classrooms from 2:15-3:15pm, including a Halloween Parade outside, weather permitting at 2:30pm.
    • More information to come for families who would like to watch the parade or volunteer to help with classroom celebrations.
    • Please note that no students or staff will be wearing costumes to school. All students and staff participating in Halloween celebrations will change into their costumes at 2:15pm.
    • Costumes must be easy to put on by the student and cannot include inflatable costumes, weapons, blood, gore or inappropriate themes for an elementary school. Students should refrain from using hair dye or make-up.
    • All students must be able to wear their masks to adhere to COVID protocols.
  • An alternative STEM celebration in the Library, from 2:15-3:15pm, for students who do not wish to participate in Halloween parties.
    • This celebration is hosted by Dr. Walter and Mrs. Hampleman and will include creative STEM activities. If you would like to volunteer to support this celebration, please reach out to Dr. Walter at kim.walter@jeffco.k12.co.us
    • Please let your child’s classroom teacher know if you would like your child to attend the STEM celebration.

Thank you for your support and for all you do to make Shelton a wonderful school. Wishing you all a great weekend.

With gratitude,

Darby

Notes from PTSA

Top 3 from the PTSA:

  1. At Tuesday’s PTSA meeting, the membership approved over $8,000 in grants to Shelton. They will be used to fund two, 1:1 tutors for math and reading, as well as a school-wide iStation subscription, which is an e-learning program for reading and math. We also voted to take a “No” position on three ballot measures coming up on the November election that negatively impact public school funding.  You can read more about them HERE, as well as find links to school board candidate information.
  2. There are two upcoming PTSA sponsored events: Reflections art program and STEM Fair – watch your Friday folders or visit the website links to learn more.
  3. Thank you for everyone who dined at The Golden Mill on October 5th – they are giving a $865 donation to Shelton!  Plan to participate in the fun over Halloween with Lil Ricci’s Pizza when 20% of sales will be donated all weekend.
