The Shelton Informer
A group of 4th grade students recently published their second edition of the Shelton Informer. As a group, they decided to focus their articles on Earth Day. Click the link below to learn more about gardening, recycling, sleep, pollution and energy efficient housing. Thank you Shelton students for keeping us informed.

Staff Appreciation
Thank you so much to our PTSA for showing the love for our teachers and staff. Lunch from The Yard House was delicious yesterday. So thank you very much.
I also want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to PTSA for redecorating our foyer. The new updated furniture looks great and is very welcoming, not to mention more comfortable.
There’s still time to sign up for Staff Appreciation! Shelton staff works hard for our kids so help us show them some love through baked goods and/or K Pods on Friday May 11th.

Bikes and Scooters
Please remember to pick up bikes and scooters after school. Please do not leave them in the bike rack over night or on weekends. Unfortunately, we have a missing scooter. If your child accidentally rode the wrong scooter home, please turn in to the main office. This way we can get it back to its rightful owner. I have instructed our FM and night custodian to lock up the bike rack at night if there are scooters or bikes left.
Safe Routes to Schools
First off, thank you so much for your school’s eager participation in the Safe Routes to Schools Grant program over the last two years. The City is excited about the great turn out to events and Bicycle Colorado did a great job encouraging our youth to get outside and walk or bike to school.
We have a few final steps to wrap up the grant and SRTS program, I hope that Shelton will continue to encourage walking and biking to school in the future. With such great wellness programs, I’m sure you will!
As a part of the grant program, we need to complete Parent Surveys and Student Tallies. You will remember we did this at the beginning of the program to get a baseline of the numbers of students walking or biking to school. The goal of the program is to increase this number so it is important get as many parent surveys completed as possible to show progress! They are coming home in Friday Folders this week. Please complete and return to your child’s teacher.
Kind regards,
Amber Wesner

Jeffco’s Summer of Early Literacy
JSEL (Jeffco Summer of Early Learning) is a six-week, intensive summer school program that focuses on increasing students’ literacy and math skills. JSEL will be in session from June 6-July 18, 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. each day, except July 4. Parents from any Jeffco school may choose from any of the seven locations. Dual language programs for students who are currently enrolled in dual language programs will be held at Emory and Lumberg.
Each day, kindergarten through third-grade students (grades for the 2018-19 school year) will have the same emphasis on reading and writing as they do during the school year. Students will also deepen their number sense and develop problem-solving abilities through a variety of math activities. Small class sizes will allow all students to learn in an authentic, experienced-based, and engaging manner.
Students who are not currently at end-of-year benchmarks or are on a READ plan who have been recommended by his/her teacher are eligible for JSEL. JSEL is for students who are entering grades kindergarten through third grade in the fall of 2018.

Let's win $800 for Shelton's School Library!
Did you know that last summer, Shelton actually did quite well in the Summer Reading Schools Competition at Jeffco Library? We came in at about 13th in the end, but were in the top 6 for most of the summer - and that was without an organized effort!
Here's what it'll take to win this year:
1. Make sure you select Shelton as your kid's school when you register them at https://jeffcolibrary.org/summerreading.
2. Check the box that says 'OK to email me' on the registration form. You'll get a weekly email over the summer that'll remind you to log your minutes, tell you what schools are in the lead, and highlight cool events and classes you don't want to miss!
3. Check in with fellow Shelton friends over summer break and encourage them to read and log minutes!
4. See more winning tips from a 2017 winner: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOd4TTBGf_c
The school with the highest percentage of finishers (students who read 8 hours or more over the summer) wins $800 for their school library! That's only 10 minutes a day! EASY! You'll also earn awesome prizes along the way and help your kids avoid the 'Summer Slide'.
We can DO this guys! Let's show Jeffco what it means to Coyote On!
