Dear Shelton Families,

It’s always amazing how fast the end of the year comes after we return from spring break.  And as it always happens, summer is almost here!

I want to thank all of you for your support and patience this school year.  This year we had several successes and challenges, yet despite it all, we continued to partner together to do what is best for students. We worked through some of those challenges and as a result, we are better prepared as we plan for next year.

As a staff, we know we can’t do our jobs as efficiently and effectively without the support of our families and community.  Our PTSA board has worked diligently to support our students, teachers and community.  For your service and time, we thank you.  To all the countless hours parents and community members volunteered . . . again, we thank you.  Last, thanks to all the parents who helped with the Community Garden, Health and Wellness, Science and Engineer, Math and Science Night, Talent Show, Watch D.O.G.S., Coyote 5K, Coyote Chase, International Night, and Sock Hop.   You all have made a big difference in the lives of our community.

Student Class Assignments

We do our best as a staff to match students with the best learning environment and classroom for the following year.  We take into consideration personalities, behaviors, and student needs. We strive to balance the classes so they are conducive to high achievement and learning. We are currently working on the class lists for next year. The student class list will be posted on Tuesday, August 14th in the afternoon.  Students can meet their next year’s teacher on Wednesday, August 15th from 8:00 – 9:00 AM in classrooms for our Meet and Greet (formerly Open House).

 Congratulations to Shelton Teachers

We would like to acknowledge the six Shelton teachers who were nominated this year to receive the Golden Schools Foundation’s Teacher Recognition Award:

  • Lindsey Cole (5th)
  • Jamie Erickson (5th)
  • Angela McWilliams (2nd)
  • Daelyn Larche-Sigman (1st)
  • Matthew Miller (K)
  • Tami Grauer (K)

These teachers were nominated by families or students because they go above and beyond to inspire students, have a contagious enthusiasm for teaching, and they think outside of the box and advance new approaches to teaching and learning. We are very proud of all of these teachers. Congratulations on your nominations! The winning teachers this year were Jennie Clarke and Andrea Pless at Kyffin Elementary School.

Winning teachers receive $1,000 to spend in their classrooms and a beautiful crystal apple. Shelton has been proud to have four past winners, including Nicole Perry (2017), Laurie Wingert (2016), Joe Johnson (2015), and Cheryl O’Haire (2012). We want to thank all of the parents and students who took the time to nominate a teacher this year. Shelton had more teachers nominated than any other school this year. It means a lot to our teachers to receive these nominations. Way to go! Keep up the great work, and be sure to congratulate these awesome teachers when you see them around the school.
